Hudson Velocity Residential Expansion

We're expanding our lightning-fast fiber network to residents!

  • The Fiber to the Residents project is a four-year expansion of Hudson Velocity services to connect all Hudson homes currently without access to fiber internet.
  • The expansion will add over 150 miles of new fiber and reach 6,500+ residences.
  • This initiative was launched following recommendations from a City Council-led ad hoc committee as the best path forward to ensuring fiber access for all residents.
  • The project is entirely self-funded through the Velocity fund and does not rely on general fund resources.

Construction FAQs

When will I be able to get Velocity Broadband service?▼

Once construction is completed, the Velocity team will reach out to neighbors who have signed up for service.

Installation will involve delivery of fiber optic cable, from the network infrastructure to your home, by our outside installation crew, followed by a scheduled appointment for activation of service.

The installation crew will need access inside your home to complete the fiber connection, set up equipment, and activate service.

What is the process, and how long will it take for service to be ready in my neighborhood? ▼

The initial network construction time is expected to take 8 weeks.

Services and utilities will be marked in the City’s right-of-way.

Underground network build will be conducted by construction contractor Edgar Trent Company and their sub-contractors. This will involve drilling, boring, excavation, and placement of pedestals and underground access to the new network.

Restoration of tree lawns and property will be completed once construction has been finalized.

Another crew will begin pulling fiber optic cables underground and on poles.

What is the City’s right-of-way, and will my lawn and property be affected? ▼

Typically, the City’s right-of-way is the area within a 30-foot expanse from the middle of the street. This includes tree lawns.

These areas may be affected and will be restored upon completion of the project.

If you have landscaping, private utilities or services such as sprinkler systems or invisible fences located in the City’s right-of-way, please move them or mark them with flags and/or spray paint.

The City cannot be responsible for damage to your property if it is within the City’s right-of-way.
